SAT I Test Prep for Better Scores
SAT I Overview
As students begin to think about applying to colleges, the SAT and SAT test prep dominates much of the conversation, and of all the private tutoring services that CATES offers, SAT test prep makes up the biggest part.
Why? The SAT is the primary college entrance exam offered by the College Board. Nearly every college in the United States accepts the SAT as part of its admissions process, and more than 2 million students take it each year. In New York alone, over 150,000 members of the class of 2010 took the SAT (161,139, to be exact). In New York City, the college application process is particularly competitive, because the city produces so many talented, high-achieving students. The bar is set very high, and in order to get the competitive SAT test scores they need in order to stand out from the crowd, many students turn to private tutoring services closeby, such as ours.
The SAT was created to predict a student’s ability to succeed in his or her first year of college – though whether it actually does that is up for debate. What it ultimately does do is give colleges a way to quickly rank applicants, making it an incredibly important part of the admissions process, second only to a student’s academic record.
