Hosted by your school or organization, CATES Live presentations provide insight, motivation and clarity on important questions that families face, including the truth behind standardized test preparation, how best to use your time in middle school and high school to develop an authentic sense of your future self, and the necessary steps in preparing for the university entrance process, among others. Both independently and in collaboration with our partner organizations, CATES brings coherence to challenging issues and demystifies the steps students need to take to secure success.
Preparing for College Weekend
For schools and institutions that wish to provide their community with a comprehensive, in-depth introduction to the college preparation process, CATES offers the “Preparing for College Weekend”. Flexible to accommodate one, two or three-day formats, the program incorporates multiple CATES presentations into single event to meet the diverse needs of the local audience. Administrators have the freedom to choose from any of the current CATES Live presentations, as well as our class and workshop curriculums, to customize a program specific to their community’s needs. Getting Ready for High School Weekend
Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School (GBRSS), MA
As a K-8 Waldorf/Steiner school, GBRSS asked CATES to adapt our “Preparing for College Weekend” into a high-school focused event. The resulting interactive weekend program, aimed at students and parents, featured CATES’s “Envision Your Future Self” module, which helps students to conceptualize their future lives and take concrete steps today toward their goals, with specific guidance on testing, high school and college admissions, and career readiness. The event also included an optional mock SSAT test, with Math and Verbal review by an expert tutor. Families completed the event with confidence and clarity on the next steps in their education.

The Educator’s SAT/ACT Handbook
Adviser Training Conference, US-UK Fulbright Commission, London, UK
This annual event provides the “nuts and bolts” to every angle of the US university admissions process for careers advisors in UK schools. At the conference, CATES presented “The Educator’s SAT/ACT Handbook,” which focused on the details of the tests and the skills of successful test-takers. In the presentation, adapted for a UK audience, CATES carefully considered US exams in relation to their UK counterparts, such as GCSE and A-levels, to demonstrate how UK students—who may see themselves at a disadvantage by not living in the US and studying within the American model—in fact possess distinct advantages in terms of successful test preparation.

Transforming Students through Standardized Testing

At a Business Network International meeting, Chris Ajemian presented on the importance of confidence and ‘soft skills’ in both standardized testing and student success more generally. After putting attendees in the shoes of students with a sample SAT vs ACT diagnostic quiz, Chris highlighted how by building self-discipline and resilience, students can use their talents today for success down the road.

SAT/ACT Scores Night 2019
Millburn High School, Millburn, NJ
Annually at Millburn High School, CATES delivers a program that helps students starting out on their standardized testing journey to decide whether the SAT or ACT is a better fit. After running a comparative diagnostic test, the program culminates in Scores Night, a fun and informative presentation in which students learn their scores and results, as well as receive insider insight on best practices for test preparation and maximizing admissions outcomes.
