The What, When and Why of AP Courses, AP Exams, and AP Test Prep

Most colleges grant incoming students credit or placement on the basis of their AP exam grades. AP exams, each including a multiple-choice and free-response section, are administered in May; they test students’ retention of material learned throughout the year.
